Welcome to National Bourbon Week! This week brings all things Bourbon to Bardstown, the Bourbon Capital of the World, and the surrounding areas. From premium Bourbon experiences at our local distilleries, to the Annual Bourbon City Street Concert, there is something for everyone. Rain or shine!
I’ve always liked Bourbon, but I have especially learned to enjoy the complexities of Bourbon in the last 5 years. My husband worked at Bartons 1792 Distillery (now Sazarac) for most of his career which has enabled him to become friends with people in many of the distilleries in the local area. Through him, I have also become more familiar with the Bourbon industry and have had the opportunity to sample some of the finest Bourbon in the world.
Bourbon is special for everyone in this area. This spirit has helped create jobs for thousands of locals. We take pride in saying we live in the Bourbon Capital of the World and National Bourbon week is a time when we can come together and celebrate our favorite spirit.
My Bourbon cocktail of choice is the Old Fashioned. The Old Fashioned can range from the basic recipe of Bourbon, simple syrup, bitters, orange peel and a cherry to a wide variety of variations and flavor profiles. Our local bars and distillery tasting rooms have come up with tons of delicious variations of the recipe. The cocktail is meant to sipped slowly and savored, taking in all of the notes from the particular Bourbon used and the other subtle flavors of the drink. Visit our local distillery tasting rooms and bars and savor one for yourself. Remember to drink responsibly!
